1. Information We Collect

When you use Quotebook, we collect the following information:

For hosts (Google sign-in):

Name, email address, and profile image from your Google account
Rooms you create and their settings
Quiz matches you host

For guests (no account required):

Display name you choose when joining a room
A browser-generated session identifier (stored locally in your browser)

For all users:

Quotes, comments, and reactions you submit
Quiz game answers and scores
Basic technical data (server logs, timestamps)

2. How We Use Information

We use the collected information to:

Provide and operate the Service (display quotes, run quiz games, show leaderboards)
Associate content with the correct rooms and users
Process payments for paid features via Stripe
Improve the Service and fix issues
Display relevant advertisements via Google AdSense

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Google OAuth — for host authentication. Google receives your sign-in request and provides us with your name, email, and profile image.
Stripe — for payment processing. Stripe handles all payment data; we do not store credit card information.
Google AdSense — for displaying advertisements. Google may use cookies and tracking technologies to serve ads. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies for authentication sessions (hosts) and local storage for guest session identifiers and display names. These are essential for the Service to function. Third-party services (Google AdSense) may set additional cookies for advertising purposes.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Content you submit (quotes, comments, reactions) is visible to other users in the same room. Quiz scores appear on leaderboards visible to room members. We may share information:

With service providers that help operate the Service (hosting, payments)
If required by law or legal process
To protect the rights and safety of the Service or its users

6. Data Retention

Quotes, comments, and reactions are retained as long as the room exists. When a host deletes a room, all associated content is removed. Quiz match data is retained for leaderboard purposes. Account data is retained until you request deletion.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and hashed passwords for private rooms. However, no system is completely secure.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Request access to the data we hold about you
Request correction or deletion of your data
Object to certain uses of your data
Request data portability

9. Children's Privacy

Quotebook is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be indicated by a new “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
